Jack Fingold, President of Sound Fire & Life Safety Inspection Services, LLC, has for the last 32 years been actively involved in the fire and life safety inspection, investigation and design of new and existing commercial building construction. Jack spent nearly two decades in the municipal administration and enforcement of fire and life safety building codes for a mid size city located in Western Washington. Unique to municipal government structure, Jack's building department was overseen by the city Fire Chief. As the building official, Jack and his inspectors worked side by side with the Fire Marshal and routinely responded to structure fires where, with the assistance of the fire marshal Jack saw in real time how structural and nonstructural building components as well as penetration fire stops behaved in fires. During his municipal career, Jack served as president of the Western Washington Chapter of ICBO and was awarded WABO's first Educator of the Year Award. In 2001, Jack founded Sound Investigative Engineers specializing in determining the cause and origin of building failures and preparation of subsequent repair designs. Jack instructed educational classes in building code inspection and fire/life safety plan review for ICBO as well as instructed secondary education students of at a local credentialed community college. Jack is a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, currently has five grandsons and lives near Black Diamond, WA, with Laura, his wife of 41 years.
Tom Smith, DRI, Vice President, has devoted 12 consecutive years dedicated exclusively to working for two of the world's top manufacturers of Firestop products as well as a senior technical represenative for a national greese duct fire barrier wrap manufacture meeting the requirments of ASTM E2336. Mr. Smith grew and developed the Firestop business in the Pacific North West through educational training seminars and testing programs that certified installers employed by Firestop contractors on behalf of the International Firestop Council, (IFC), a trade association representing all the manufacturers of firestop products. These trainings provided the view of all Firestop manufacturers on how Firestop should be specified, installed and inspected to assure proper performance of Life Safety barriers in both new and retrofit construction..." Tom is certified by U/L having passed their extensive and industru leading firestop examination. Tom resides in Marysville, WA, with his sons and Emily, his wife of 26 years.
Jack and Tom have developed Statement of Conditions and site-specific 'Plans For Improvement' for building owners and AHJ, whereby they efficiently and cost effectively returned the assembly to its intended rating complying with (IFC) Section 703.1. Jack and Tom also developes site -specific Barrier Management Plans for building owners and AHJ to meet their individual needs to comply with (IFC) Section 703.3.
